Why watch reruns on the Food Network or Cooking Channel when you can tune in to Mackinaw's Own "Cooking with Carol". This addictive cooking class available on the Facebook platform stars local restaurateur, Carol Haynes. Carol and her husband, Patrick, are the owners of Mackinaw's popular restaurant Haynes on Main.
While facing tough times as a result of the COVID-19 shutdowns, Carol took her life-long passion for cooking and entertaining and created Cooking with Carol. She offered complete meal kits which could be picked up at their restaurant and other area locations to accompany her online instructions. Cooking with Carol became more than just another cooking tutorial, it became a virtual meet up in a friends kitchen.
When Haynes began Cooking with Carol, it was a bridge past the pandemic. However, its success in becoming a gathering place of friends and families for a fun evening of cooking, laughs, and moments to cherish has caused Haynes to continue her weekly classes.
"I believe at the end of the day it is just food. However, cooking and being in the kitchen with loved ones creates more than just dinner on the table. It brings people together and creates lasting memories", Haynes said.
The classic Chinese take-out dish Kung Pao Chicken will be featured on the next installment of Cooking with Carol, live streaming on Tuesday, March 2 at 5:30 PM.
