Grow a Salsa Garden

Grow a Salsa Garden

Grow a Salsa Garden is designed for rising 3rd-12th grade youth (2021-2022 school year). The purpose of the program is to encourage and inspire youth to grow their own food and make salsa.

Each family will receive 2-five gallon buckets, filled with soil, with holes drilled in the bottom to grow their tomato transplant, cilantro seeds and onion bulbs. They will also receive gardening resources.

Youth are invited to two in-person sessions at the Waynesville library. At the first session, they will plant their items, decorate garden stakes and then take the buckets home. At the second session, they will make salsa in anticipation that they will be able to make their own very soon.

In addition, youth will be offered an opportunity to “showcase” their vegetables at the DeWitt, Macon & Piatt 4-H Show in July.
